TREATED WOOD DECKING

Pressure treated decks, the budget workhorse

Pressure treated southern yellow pine is the most affordable deck board on the market, and it has been the standard in Austin backyards for decades. It is not the lowest-maintenance option, but it is strong, available, and costs less than composite or cedar. We build it right, with proper spacing, sealing, and framing, so it lasts.

Wood Decking

Pressure Treated Pine in Austin, TX

Southern yellow pine, treated for ground contact

Pressure treated pine is southern yellow pine infused with preservatives under pressure. The treatment resists rot, termites, and fungal decay. We use ground-contact-rated boards even for above-ground decks because the extra treatment costs very little and adds years of life. The wood is heavy, dense, and strong.

Sealed against Texas UV

Treated pine will check, crack, and turn gray without a finish. That is normal for wood, but it shortens the life of the deck. We apply a penetrating water-repellent sealer after the wood has dried out from treatment, typically 2 to 4 weeks after install. After that, we recommend a fresh coat every 1 to 2 years.

Proper spacing and fastening

Treated pine is wet when it arrives from the lumber yard and shrinks as it dries. We install boards with a gap that accounts for shrinkage, so you do not end up with boards touching after a dry August. We use coated deck screws, not nails, because nails back out as the wood cycles through wet and dry seasons.

When pressure treated makes sense

Pressure treated pine is the right choice when budget is the priority and you are willing to do the maintenance. It costs roughly half what composite costs per square foot. For a large deck, a rental property, or a project where you need the most square footage for the dollar, treated pine is the answer. We will tell you straight what to expect in terms of upkeep.

Financing options

Managing the cost of your decking project

A roof or exterior replacement is a real investment. We make sure the payment side is not the thing that keeps you up at night.

Flexible monthly plans

Spread the cost of your project across manageable monthly payments instead of paying it all at once. We work with financing partners who understand that a roof or siding job is not a planned expense, it is usually an urgent one. Plans range from short-term payoff to longer terms that keep your monthly number low.

Don't wait for an insurance check

If your adjuster is still reviewing the claim or the payout is weeks out, financing lets us get the work started now. You stop the leak, secure the property, and pay the balance down once your insurance funds arrive. No tarp on your roof for a month waiting on paperwork.

Simple, upfront terms

Your estimator walks you through the financing application during the inspection, right at your kitchen table. No obligation, no hard credit pull until you decide to move forward. You see the rate, the term, and the monthly payment before you sign anything.

Works with insurance deductibles

Many homeowners use financing to cover their deductible portion of a storm claim, so the job does not stall on out-of-pocket cost. We coordinate the scope, the claim, and the financing so you understand exactly what insurance covers and what your plan handles.

Questions

Pressure Treated Decking FAQ

How long does a pressure treated deck last in Austin?

A pressure treated pine deck with regular sealing lasts 10 to 15 years in Central Texas. Without sealing, the surface degrades faster, with checking, cracking, and graying. The framing underneath, also treated, typically lasts longer than the deck boards.

Does pressure treated decking need to be sealed?

Yes. Treated pine should be sealed with a water-repellent stain every 1 to 2 years to block UV and repel water. The first coat goes on after the wood has dried from the treatment process, about 2 to 4 weeks after installation. Without sealing, the wood checks, cracks, and turns gray.

Is pressure treated wood cheaper than composite?

Yes, significantly. Pressure treated pine costs roughly half what composite decking costs per square foot. It is the most affordable deck board available. The trade-off is maintenance, treated pine needs sealing every 1 to 2 years while composite needs only soap and water.

Why do pressure treated decks crack and split?

Treated pine is wet when installed and shrinks as it dries. Without proper sealing, the surface checks and cracks from UV and moisture cycling. We pre-drill screw holes to prevent splitting, space the boards for shrinkage, and seal the surface after drying. Regular maintenance keeps the wood sound.
