Exterior Repaint in Clarksville

The Project

This small Clarksville cottage was being prepped for sale, and the exterior paint was peeling badly on the south and west walls. The homeowners wanted a clean, fresh look that would hold up to buyer scrutiny and Texas sun, without losing the historic character of the original trim details.

What We Found

• Peeling paint on south and west walls from UV breakdown
• Rot at the window sills and corner boards where water had been sitting
• Cracked caulk at every joint - the original seal had failed years ago
• Original trim profile that needed to be preserved for the historic district

What We Did

We started with a full pressure wash to remove loose paint and dirt. Then we scraped every surface down to sound paint or bare wood, and cut out the rotted sections at the window sills and corner boards.

We replaced the rot with new wood, matching the original trim profile exactly so the historic character of the home was preserved. Every joint was re-caulked, and bare wood was spot-primed before the finish coats went on.

We applied two coats of Sherwin-Williams Duration exterior acrylic - a product rated to hold its color through Texas UV for 8 to 12 years. The homeowners chose a color that complemented the original character of the home while giving it a fresh, updated look.

The Result

The project took three days. The house passed the pre-sale inspection without a single exterior call-out. The paint has a smooth, back-brushed finish that worked the acrylic into the wood grain instead of just laying on top. The original trim profiles are intact, and buyers and inspectors both noticed the quality of the prep work.
