Decks framed to code, finished to last

A deck fails at the ledger and the footings, the parts you cannot see. We flash the ledger to the house, set footings below frost, and frame with ground-contact treated lumber so the surface stays flat for years. Composite, cedar, or PVC, built by the same crew from start to finish.

Why choose us

Why Austin homeowners call Nighthawk for decking

Local crews, proven materials, and a standard we will not lower for speed or price.

Built on Central Texas ground

We have spent years working the neighborhoods between San Marcos and Temple. That means we know the hail tracks, the soil, the wind corridors, and the HOA rules on your street before we ever set foot on the property. When we quote decking work, it is based on what actually happens to homes here, not a generic chart.

Materials we trust

We install products we would put on our own houses. Every material on this list is chosen because it holds up to Texas sun, hail, and wind, and because the manufacturer stands behind it with a real warranty.

  • Trex & TimberTech composite
  • Azek & TimberTech PVC
  • Western red cedar
  • Ground-contact treated framing
  • Hidden fastener clip system

Committed to your property

The crew that inspects your decking is the same crew that does the work. No subcontractor handoff, no middleman markup. We protect your landscaping, clean the site daily, and stand behind the finished job. If something is not right, you call us, not a 1-800 number.

Financing options

Managing the cost of your decking project

A roof or exterior replacement is a real investment. We make sure the payment side is not the thing that keeps you up at night.

Flexible monthly plans

Spread the cost of your project across manageable monthly payments instead of paying it all at once. We work with financing partners who understand that a roof or siding job is not a planned expense, it is usually an urgent one. Plans range from short-term payoff to longer terms that keep your monthly number low.

Don't wait for an insurance check

If your adjuster is still reviewing the claim or the payout is weeks out, financing lets us get the work started now. You stop the leak, secure the property, and pay the balance down once your insurance funds arrive. No tarp on your roof for a month waiting on paperwork.

Simple, upfront terms

Your estimator walks you through the financing application during the inspection, right at your kitchen table. No obligation, no hard credit pull until you decide to move forward. You see the rate, the term, and the monthly payment before you sign anything.

Works with insurance deductibles

Many homeowners use financing to cover their deductible portion of a storm claim, so the job does not stall on out-of-pocket cost. We coordinate the scope, the claim, and the financing so you understand exactly what insurance covers and what your plan handles.

Composite decking

Trex and TimberTech boards that never need staining and stay cool enough to walk on. Hidden fastener clips leave a clean surface with no screw heads to catch a bare foot. We frame to the manufacturer's spec with tighter joist spacing, because composite is heavier than wood and needs the support.

Cedar and hardwood

Western red cedar for a natural look, sealed against Texas sun. We pre-drill and space the boards so they breathe and stay flat through a wet spring and a dry August. Stainless steel fasteners prevent the black streaks you get when standard screws react with cedar tannins.

PVC decking

Azek and TimberTech PVC for the lowest maintenance and coolest surface available. Fully synthetic with no wood fiber, so it does not stain, does not mold, and stays cooler than composite in direct sun. The premium tier, but worth it for a deck that gets heavy use and full sun.

Framing and rails

Ground-contact treated lumber, flashed ledger, and code-height rails with balusters spaced to pass inspection. We bolt rail posts through the frame, not surface-mounted, and pull the permit where the city requires it. The frame under your deck is built to last as long as the boards on top of it.

Heat and material selection

Composite gets warmer than wood in direct sun, and darker colors get hotter than lighter ones. If your deck faces south or west with no shade, we will steer you toward lighter colors or PVC, which stays the coolest. We bring samples to your inspection so you can see how the color reads in Texas sun, not on a screen.

Questions

Decking FAQ

How much does a deck cost in Austin?

A pressure-treated pine deck starts around $25 to $35 per square foot. Composite runs $45 to $65 per square foot. PVC and premium hardwoods can reach $70 or more. Railings, stairs, and multi-level designs add to the cost. We give you a fixed quote after a free inspection, no ranges that change later.

Composite or wood in the Texas heat?

Composite stays lower maintenance and will not splinter, though darker boards get warm in direct sun. Cedar looks natural and stays cooler but needs a seal coat every couple of years. PVC stays the coolest and requires the least maintenance but costs the most. We help you choose based on sun exposure, budget, and how much upkeep you want to do.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

Often yes, depending on height and where you are in the Austin area. Decks over 30 inches above grade typically require a permit and inspection. We tell you up front and pull the permit when the job calls for one, so the inspection passes the first time.

Can you put new decking over my existing deck frame?

Sometimes, if the framing is solid, level, and properly spaced. Composite requires tighter joist spacing than wood, usually 16 inches on center. We inspect the joists, ledger, and footings first. If the framing is rotting or the spacing is wrong, we rebuild it. We will not lay new boards over a failing frame.

How long does a deck last in Austin?

Pressure treated pine lasts 10 to 15 years with regular sealing. Cedar lasts 15 to 20 years sealed. Composite lasts 25 to 30 years. PVC can last 30 years or more. The framing underneath, if built with ground-contact treated lumber and proper footings, should last as long as the decking.
