Composite Deck Construction in Mueller
BEFORE

AFTER

The Project
This Mueller townhome had a small backyard with tight lot lines and no usable outdoor living space. The homeowners wanted a deck that would last without the annual staining and sealing that wood requires, and that would fit the modern aesthetic of the neighborhood.
What We Found
- Tight lot lines meant staging material curbside and cleaning the site daily
- No existing deck or patio - starting from scratch
- HOA guidelines required a specific railing height and material standard
- Soil conditions needed poured footings below the frost line
What We Did
We designed and built a 200-square-foot composite deck using Trex boards with a hidden fastener clip system - no screw heads to catch a bare foot, and no annual staining cycle.
The framing is ground-contact treated lumber, flashed at the ledger to the house with proper lag bolting and flashing to prevent water intrusion. Footings were poured below frost to code, with post bases that keep the wood off the concrete. The railing is code-height with aluminum balusters spaced to pass inspection.
Because the lot lines were tight, we staged all material curbside and cleaned the site daily to keep the neighbors and HOA happy. We pulled the permit and passed all inspections without a callback.
The Result
The deck was completed in four days. The homeowners have a low-maintenance outdoor space that won't splinter, fade, or require annual sealing. The hidden fasteners give it a clean, modern look that fits the Mueller aesthetic, and the framing is built to outlast the surface boards.
