Roof Replacement in Pflugerville
BEFORE

AFTER

The Project
This Pflugerville home was only 12 years old, but the builder-grade shingles were already curling and losing granules. The homeowners noticed shingle tabs in the yard after a windstorm and called for an inspection. The roof was too far gone for a repair - the shingles were failing across the entire roof field.
What We Found
- Curling shingles across the entire roof - builder-grade 3-tab shingles at end of life
- Poor attic ventilation - the real reason the shingles failed early
- Granule loss in the gutters - the protective coating was coming off
- No ridge vent - the attic was cooking the shingles from underneath
What We Did
We tore off the old shingles down to the deck and inspected every sheet. The decking was in good condition because the roof hadn't been leaking yet, but the shingles were within months of failing.
We installed a full Owens Corning Duration system with synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield in the valleys, new step flashing, new drip edge, and new pipe boots. The homeowners chose Duration architectural shingles for the wind rating and the SureNail strip that holds better in Central Texas storms.
Critically, we added a ridge vent to the attic. The original roof had inadequate ventilation, which was cooking the shingles from underneath and shortening their life by years. The new ridge vent, combined with the existing soffit vents, creates proper airflow that will help the new shingles last their full warranty period.
The Result
The roof was completed in two days. The homeowners now have architectural shingles rated for 130 mph winds, proper attic ventilation that will extend the life of the roof, and a manufacturer system warranty. The ventilation upgrade is the fix that most production builders skip, and it's the reason the new roof will outlast the old one by a decade.
