Hail Damage Roof Repair in Travis Heights
BEFORE

AFTER

The Project
After a late-spring hailstorm moved through South Austin, this Travis Heights homeowner noticed bruised shingles and granule buildup in the gutters but wasn't sure if the damage warranted an insurance claim or just a repair. We flew the roof with our drone and found hail strikes concentrated on the south and east-facing slopes, with the north and west slopes largely untouched thanks to tree cover.
What We Found
- Hail bruising on the south and east slopes - visible as dark spots where the mat was dented under the granules
- Granule loss in the gutters - a sure sign of impact damage
- Cracked flashing at the valley where hail had dented the metal
- North and west slopes in good condition - no replacement needed
What We Did
We documented every hail strike with dated drone photos and helped the homeowner file an insurance claim. The adjuster met our foreman on site and approved the scope for the two damaged slopes.
We replaced the shingles on the south and east slopes with matching Owens Corning Duration architectural shingles, re-flashed the valley with new metal, and replaced the cracked step flashing at the chimney. The transition between the new and existing shingles was sealed and inspected to make sure there was no weak point at the seam.
The Result
The repair was completed in a single day. The homeowner paid only their deductible, and the insurance covered the rest. The two repaired slopes now have Class 4 impact-rated shingles, while the untouched slopes remain in good condition. We recommended a follow-up drone inspection after the next hail season to make sure the older slopes are still sound.
