Why board and batten
Board and batten siding is vertical, with wide boards separated by narrower batten strips that cover the seams. The look is clean, modern, and dimensional. It is the profile you see on new hill-country builds, modern farmhouses, and accent walls. James Hardie's version is engineered fiber cement, not wood, so it will not warp, split, or rot.
ColorPlus factory finish
James Hardie's ColorPlus finish is applied in a factory, baked on, and warrantied for 15 years against fading. Field paint on fiber cement lasts 8 to 12 years. ColorPlus lasts longer, goes on more evenly, and means your siding is finished the day we install it, no painting crew, no weather delays.
Noncombustible and hail-resistant
Fiber cement will not burn. It carries a Class A fire rating, the highest available. In a wildfire zone or near a neighbor's house fire, that matters. It also resists hail denting better than vinyl or aluminum, which can crack or dent in a Texas storm.
Proper installation to Hardie spec
James Hardie requires specific clearances, flashing, and fastener patterns for the warranty to be valid. We install to their published spec, not to a shortcut. That means proper clearance above rooflines and grade, flashing at penetrations, and the right fasteners. If we would not pass a Hardie inspection, we redo it before we leave.

Financing options
Managing the cost of your siding project
A roof or exterior replacement is a real investment. We make sure the payment side is not the thing that keeps you up at night.
Flexible monthly plans
Spread the cost of your project across manageable monthly payments instead of paying it all at once. We work with financing partners who understand that a roof or siding job is not a planned expense, it is usually an urgent one. Plans range from short-term payoff to longer terms that keep your monthly number low.
Don't wait for an insurance check
If your adjuster is still reviewing the claim or the payout is weeks out, financing lets us get the work started now. You stop the leak, secure the property, and pay the balance down once your insurance funds arrive. No tarp on your roof for a month waiting on paperwork.
Simple, upfront terms
Your estimator walks you through the financing application during the inspection, right at your kitchen table. No obligation, no hard credit pull until you decide to move forward. You see the rate, the term, and the monthly payment before you sign anything.
Works with insurance deductibles
Many homeowners use financing to cover their deductible portion of a storm claim, so the job does not stall on out-of-pocket cost. We coordinate the scope, the claim, and the financing so you understand exactly what insurance covers and what your plan handles.
Questions
Hardie Board and Batten FAQ
How long does Hardie board and batten last in Austin?
James Hardie fiber cement siding carries a 30-year product warranty and typically lasts 30 to 50 years in Central Texas. The ColorPlus finish is warrantied for 15 years. Fiber cement does not rot, warp, or attract insects, which are the main failure points for wood siding in our climate.
Is Hardie board and batten better than vinyl?
For Austin homes, yes. Fiber cement is noncombustible, holds paint longer, resists hail, and does not melt near reflected window heat. Vinyl is less expensive and lower maintenance, but it fades faster in Texas UV and can crack in a hard hail storm. Hardie costs more but performs better.
Does Hardie board and batten need to be painted?
If you choose ColorPlus, no. The finish is factory-applied and warrantied for 15 years. If you choose primed board, it needs to be field-painted with an exterior acrylic within a set window after installation. We recommend ColorPlus for most Austin homes because it lasts longer and eliminates a trade from the schedule.
Can Hardie board and batten go over my existing siding?
Sometimes, but we usually do not recommend it. Fiber cement needs a solid, flat substrate, and trapping old siding behind it can hide rot and create moisture issues. We tear off failing siding, inspect the sheathing, and install on a clean deck. It costs more but it is the right way.
